What to Expect

Activity Level

Takes into consideration the physical requirements for each of the trips, walking, hiking, climbing in and out of safari vehicles etc.
           Moderate

Travelers should be able to climb 60 stairs consecutively, plus walk at least 3 miles over some steep slopes and loose or uneven surfaces without difficulty. Walks typically last for 3 or more hours at a time. Altitude can range from 5,000 to 7,000 feet.

Takes into consideration the length of bus rides, flights, number of destinations in the number of days
           Moderately Easy

Moderately paced, and may include some early morning hotel departures, one or two on-tour flights, and extended motorcoach travel.

PACING
  • This adventure is moderately paced
  • You’ll spend 12 nights cruising aboard the Ocean Odyssey, 2 nights at InterContinental Hotel (or similar) in Amman, and 2 night at Divani Caravel (or similar) in Athens
  • There are 3 days at sea (2 of which we spend crossing the Suez Canal) and a total of 11 days exploring the historic and cultural sites. There is one port at which we need to tender to shore

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This is a tour for moderately active travelers. There are several walking tours throughout
  • Sightseeing takes place on air-conditioned/heated coaches with guides
  • Footing can be uneven or challenging in some of the ancient sites we visit. The cobbled streets of medieval Old Towns will also require care.
  • Travelers must be able to climb in and out of our tender

TERRAIN & TRANSPORTATION
  • Most shore excursions, especially those at ancient and medieval sites and in rural areas, require walking on uneven terrain
  • Shore excursions utilize air-conditioned shuttles or motorcoaches. During the hotel-based land portion of this trip, a walking tour might leave directly from the hotel, or it too might utilize air-conditioned shuttles or motorcoaches.

CLIMATE
  • Due to the climate, we advise you to pack sunscreen and moisturizer (in the amounts permitted by TSA regulations), and bring a hat and sunglasses as well. These will be difficult to come by in the Middle East. If you’re traveling in summer, be sure to bring very cool (but modest) cotton or linen clothing.
  • Since the weather is unpredictable, please check weather sites online for 10-day forecasts closer to your departure date to plan your packing accordingly.

Please Note: Ocean cruising is not the same experience as river cruising; as such, you may experience fluctuating tides and weather patterns that may involve some rocking of your vessel. Itineraries will include all activities as planned except in extreme cases that can’t be controlled by your shipboard crew. Day-by-day itineraries are preliminary and therefore subject to change. If changes occur while on tour, you will be notified by your Cruise Director or regional expert.
