What to Expect

Activity Level

Takes into consideration the physical requirements for each of the trips, walking, hiking, climbing in and out of safari vehicles etc.
           Moderately Strenuous

Travelers should be able to climb 80 stairs consecutively, plus walk at least 4 miles over some steep slopes and loose or uneven surfaces without difficulty. Walks typically last for 4 or more hours at a time. Altitude can range from 7,000 to 9,000 feet.

Pacing

Takes into consideration the length of bus rides, flights, number of destinations in the number of days
           Moderate

Pacing is sometimes robust, and may include several long days with early hotel departures, active sightseeing and evening activities. Opportunities for daytime rest and rejuvenation may be limited on most days. May include significant motor coach time, two or more on-tour flights, and/or occasional travel via non-traditional means such as safari vehicles, Zodiac ship tenders, rickshaws/pedi-cabs, etc.

PACING:
  • This trip is moderately paced
  • Your 30-day expedition cruisetour includes 25 nights on board the 5-star ;Ocean Explorer; plus, hotel stays for 4 nights total in Montréal and Dublin (the 30 days include the day you depart from home and your overnight flight, plus the day you depart for home)
  • Over the course of 30 days, you’ll visit 19 ports of call in 7 different countries. Sightseeing and expeditions are usually offered in half-day tours, with time to relax every day
  • There are seven days at sea when you have ample time to relax; attend workshops and lectures presented by your light expedition team; and enjoy the amenities on board your luxury expedition vessel
  • We often cruise overnight but some scenic sailing will be conducted during daylight hours

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • You should be in good health to fully enjoy this tour
  • This journey does require some walking for great distances, you will be on your feet for two to three hours at a time
  • Some more challenging hikes will also be offered
  • Some of your exploration takes place in remote natural settings, historic centers, old villages and archaeological sites where you should be sure-footed
  • Most city sightseeing takes place in air-conditioned coaches with guides. You should expect some long rides over occasionally bumpy terrain
  • At several ports on this journey, zodiacs and local tenders will be used for daily excursions and onshore landings, potentially on uneven terrain. Guests should be comfortable embarking and disembarking smaller vessels
  • This cruise tour is not suitable for those who have difficulty walking or require wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Please refer to Vantage's wheelchair and handicapped traveler policy

TERRAIN & TRANSPORTATION:
  • Your ship is your main means of transportation between destinations
  • In cities, land transportation is conducted on board deluxe, air-conditioned motorcoaches
  • Some of your island destinations are remote and rugged, so we will use 4x4 vehicles to get around
  • In some locations you will ride along uneven or bumpy roads, especially in more rural areas or at historical sites
  • You will have several opportunities to explore in small, motorized Zodiac expedition craft. Your expedition team leaders will assist with your embarkation and disembarkation on rugged shores

CLIMATE:
  • This trip takes place during the summer, when the weather is temperate and there are still ample daylight hours. It should be quite pleasant in most of your destinations. Please refer to the charts in the Before You Go section for more details
  • You will receive a complimentary wind- and rain-resistant expedition jacket as our gift. Otherwise, there will be some temperature variations, so it is important to pack accordingly. Bring several pairs of long pants, a light sweater and jacket, and even a hat and gloves for any brisk days at sea and island exploration. In general, plan on temperate weather but bring layers, just in case
  • During your days at sea it can occasionally be windy, and there is a chance of rain in all our locations
  • The sun is glaring and strong in all our destinations, so sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats are musts

Please note: Ocean-cruising is not the same experience as river cruising; as such, you may experience fluctuating tides and weather patterns that may involve some rocking of your vessel. Itineraries will include all activities as planned except in extreme cases that can’t be controlled by your shipboard crew. Day-by-day itineraries are preliminary and therefore subject to change. If changes occur while on tour, you will be notified by your Cruise Director or regional expert.
