Keep reading to learn more about what you can expect on an unforgettable Antarctica expedition.

The key component of a Vantage Antarctica cruise is a strong educational element, and the backbone of every Vantage expedition cruise to Antarctica is your Expedition Team. Comprised of knowledgeable experts in fields such as marine biology, geology, anthropology, and polar exploration, your 17-member Expedition Team will lead your discoveries throughout your journey.

On board, the team will prepare you for the adventure to come by hosting informative and engaging presentations on topics relevant to your expedition. During shoreside Zodiac landings, the team will scope out local conditions and offer guided hikes and insightful commentary to help you fully appreciate the region and its wildlife. You can look forward to encountering indigenous wildlife, floating icebergs, paradisiacal bays, international research bases, and even an active caldera! Our team members have been traveling to polar regions for years, and their expertise and advice will undoubtedly enhance your journey.

Because daily life in Antarctica is determined by the elements, no two days are the same, and there’s no way to predict exactly where landings will take place. We’ll undoubtedly happen upon some penguin rookeries — most likely Adélie, gentoo, and chinstrap penguin varieties — but you may also spot killer and humpback whales, as well as crabeater, leopard, and Weddell seals, which are prosperous in these chilly waters. We’ll explore a diversity of landscapes, including active volcanoes, mossy cliffs, and rocky beaches, too. A few potential landing sites include:

  • Cuverville Island, almost completely covered in a permanent ice cap and home to delightful gentoo penguins
  • Half Moon Island, a refuge for chinstrap penguins and a variety of seals
  • Neko Harbor, a haven for minke and humpback whales with great glacier views
  • Deception Island, a former whaling outpost with an active caldera

You’ll have plenty of time to take in the majesty of your surroundings. With the Ocean Explorer classified as and IAATO Category 1 vessel, we have exclusive access to some of Antarctica’s smaller fjords. Plus, we are one of the only cruise operators that also include South Georgia and the Falkland Islands in our itineraries!

Our active guests will find plenty of stimulating and exciting activities in which to partake during an Antarctica journey. In addition to more rigorous hikes through the unspoiled terrains of the Antarctic Peninsula, and the wildlife havens of South Georgia and the Falkland Islands, there are walking tours in Buenos Aires and unlimited access to the onboard gym.

For an utterly unique encounter, you can partake in a polar kayaking excursion. This optional tour is designed to let you explore the jaw-dropping landscapes and incredible wildlife up close in an unprecedented way. Tours take place in calm and protected waters, with only two individuals per kayak, and are available on all expedition cruises. This is a perfect opportunity for the truly adventurous traveler to check a once-in-a-lifetime experience off their bucket list! Participants must possess the appropriate fitness level and previous kayaking experience is a plus.

Sailing aboard the 5-star Ocean Explorer is a small ship expedition cruise unlike any other. With a maximum capacity of just 134 guests aboard, you’ll have plenty of room to spread out and enjoy every onboard amenity after a day of shoreside exploration. Dine on world-class cuisine prepared by skilled onboard chefs at the elegant main dining room or try your hand at a unique culinary experience at the hot-rock cooking restaurant. Indulge in a pampering massage at the spa or unwind with a relaxing soak in the hot tub. Sit in on informative lectures and engaging onboard performances, or toast to your daily discoveries while taking in the incredible scenery from the topmost panoramic lounge.

When you are ready to retire for the evening, your sumptuous stateroom is an inviting home away from home. Plush, comfortable bedding and hotel-style linens provide a welcome respite from the day’s activities. Best of all, every accommodation on board is an outside cabin, many with private verandahs. This means you’ll never miss the jaw-dropping vistas, whether relaxing in your cabin or lounging on the sundeck.

With so much included in the price of your expedition cruise, Vantage makes planning an adventurous journey seamless. Accommodations, transfers, most meals, complimentary drinks, parkas, and boots — it’s all included.
