Superb dining is one of the specialties of Vantage river ships. While you cruise, all your meals are included aboard ship, as well as a selection of meals at restaurants, breweries, and wineries ashore, so you can experience regional flavors.

The menu aboard ship varies every day and takes advantage of fresh, locally grown ingredients. Breakfasts are served buffet style, with a full selection of hot and cold choices, from juices and fresh fruits to cereals, omelets, sausage, and waffles. Lunches offer a selection of salads and hot and cold entrees - you'll have the choice of eating "light" or more substantially. At dinner, you'll sit down to a delicious multi-course dinner. Menu selections feature continental cuisine and North American favorites. All passengers dine at one seating, in an open seating plan. You'll never feel like you're eating to the clock, and you can choose your dining companions — a great way to meet and mingle with people. Every river cruise also includes special Captain's Welcome and Farewell dinners aboard ship — enjoy included wine with dinner on those evenings!

Cultural Events Aboard Ship

Besides your shore excursions, the culture of Europe comes aboard your Vantage river cruise ship, too. Often, you'll find a lecture scheduled that discusses some aspect of the day's sightseeing, such as the affect of World War II or the country's most notable artists. A local artisan may come aboard to demonstrate his or her craft. And many evenings, local performers share traditional songs, lively folk dances, or music from a notable historic period. Learning about the places you visit is one of the nicest things about a Vantage river cruise. And because you'll be offered a state-of-the-art audio headset for every included tour, you'll easily hear the many interesting facts, customs, and legends recounted by your English-fluent guides.

Here's how it works:
When you depart ship for a walking tour of, say, a medieval town on the Rhine, just slip on the lightweight headphones and the small receiver that hangs from a lanyard. Your tour guide, in turn, wears a portable microphone and transmitter. Then, when he or she tells you about the legend of an old castle, or points out the unique architecture surrounding a town square, you'll pick up every word ... even if you're standing in the back of your group or have lagged behind for a closer look at some interesting detail. You'll especially appreciate them in churches or museums where your guide must speak softly — every word will be as clear as a bell. We introduced the headsets several years ago to rave reviews — so now we've expanded the program to include all Vantage vessels.
