CULTURAL FOCUS: United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Bahrain require a heavy foreign culture adjustment for many. The different customs, foods, culture, and history are for many the most rewarding part of the experience. For those up for it, these differences, as well as the beauty and the antiquity, make the region a uniquely rewarding destination.

Travellers taking the optional extension will also need to purchase a visa for Qatar. Travellers will fly from their home cities to JFK airport in New York, then will depart together on an early evening flight to Dubai. Due to airline schedules and luggage requirements, passengers arriving from several cities will require an overnight in New York at an additional cost before their flight from New York to Dubai.

It is advisable to ask permission before photographing people. Bargaining is expected with merchants especially in the markets. Religious customs should be respected, particularly during the month of Ramadan when eating, drinking and smoking during daylight hours should be discreet as it is forbidden by the Muslim culture. |
