Depart Home / Fly Overnight Johannesburg

Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you’ll be transferred to your hotel, which is an historic house hotel in Parktown.

After breakfast you’re off on a tour showcasing the changes taking place in the developing area of Soweto. Once known only for its shantytowns, the African entrepreneurial spirit is sparking development and change, and the area is now home to many successful business people and boasts upscale neighborhoods. Highlights include the humble home where Nelson Mandela lived before he was arrested by the government, and to the Hector Pietersen Monument commemorating the student uprisings of 1976.

After an included lunch, enjoy a tour of laid-back Pretoria, featuring Church Street, the heart of the city and the red-sandstone Union buildings and gardens. This evening you’ll enjoy both an orientation meeting and a Welcome Dinner at your hotel.

Johannesburg / Chobe National Park, Botswana

This morning you’ll fly to Victoria Falls, then motorcoach to Chobe National Park in Botswana. After checking into the Chobe Safari Lodge, enjoy refreshing chilled towels, a welcome drink, and a light lunch with time to relax. Later, embark on a sunset wildlife cruise on the Chobe River before dinner at the hotel.
Day 5 begins with breakfast at the lodge before sailing across the Chobe River to Namibia. Cultural Connection: In this neighboring country, you’ll visit a Namibian village. Later, embark on an afternoon game drive to explore elephant country. Dinner this evening is included on the lodge terrace, overlooking the river.

Chobe National Park / Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer via motorcoach to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Cultural Connection: En route to your hotel, you’ll experience Zimbabwean culture and village life on a visit to a craft community. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided visit to Victoria Falls National Park, including a walk through the tropical forest.
On Day 7, enjoy a day at leisure, or join an optional “Flight of Angels” flightseeing helicopter tour over Victoria Falls. Cultural Connection: This evening, you’ll meet a local family at an included home-hosted dinner.
Day 8 begins at leisure or join an optional “Walk with Lions” excursion to the Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve. You may also want to try an optional ride on an elephant through the bush. Cultural Connection: This afternoon, you’ll visit the Wisdom for Wildlife Trust in Victoria Falls where the children will teach you about the importance of wildlife and plants in their home environment. You’ll have a chance to join an optional sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. Cultural Connection: This evening, you’ll take a drive into the Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve, and enjoy a bush dinner, accompanied by African dancing and a mini-theater presentation.

Victoria Falls / Cape Town, South Africa

After breakfast on Day 9, fly to Cape Town via Johannesburg, arriving late afternoon. Transfer to your hotel.
The morning of Day 10, set out for a tour of Robben Island, the Alcatraz-like prison where Nelson Mandela was held captive for 17 years. Your guide will be a former inmate who can provide a first-hand account of life at the former prison. After lunch on your own in Cape Town, enjoy a city tour. Dinner tonight is at your hotel.
Day 11 begins with a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain for magnificent views (weather permitting). You’ll then tour the Cape of Good Hope, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll also visit the Boulders Beach Penguin Reserve, home to almost 3,000 African penguins. Return to your hotel for an evening at leisure.
Day 12 is at leisure. Or, join an optional tour of South Africa’s wine country, with wine tasting and a visit to the town of Stellenbosch. Your evening is at leisure. Or, join an optional “Golden Africa” tour with included dinner

Cape Town / Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal

Transfer to the airport for your included flight to Durban on the Natal Coast. Upon arrival you’ll enjoy a panoramic city tour of Durban that includes a ride along the spectacular oceanfront road known as the “Golden Mile.” Afterwards, transfer to the resort town of Umhlanga Rocks. You’ll enjoy a room with a balcony and ocean views at a seaside resort.
Cultural Connection: On Day 13 visit a recreated traditional kraal, or “Zulu” settlement. On this full-day tour of Kwa Zulu Natal (formerly “Zululand”), you’ll experience traditional customs like tribal dancing. You’ll also get a taste of Zulu food during an included lunch.

Kwa Zulu Natal / Kruger National Park, Paul Kruger

This morning, you’ll transfer to the airport for your flight to Nelspruit, then motorcoach to Kruger National Park, where you’ll stay at the lodge closest to the park gate. Dinner is included tonight at the hotel.
On Day 16, embark on a dawn-to-dusk wildlife viewing drive, including Skukuza Triangle. Your driver-guides will help you seek out “The Big Five” — lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos. Lunch is included at a lodge within the park. Your evening is at leisure.
Head out on an early morning game drive on Day 17, returning to the hotel for breakfast. You’ll have the midday free, then you can enjoy a final safari drive in Kruger National Park. Return to the hotel for a memorable Farewell Dinner, including entertainment by an African choir.

Kruger National Park / Return Home

This morning fly from Kruger to Johannesburg to connect to your afternoon flight home or begin your optional extension to Namibia. You’ll arrive back into the U.S. on Day 19.
